What to expect on your first shift at the Santa Fe Place Mall

To keep up with the increased need for food assistance, The Food Depot is temporarily using warehouse space at the Santa Fe Place Mall. The entrance to our warehouse space is located on the West side of the mall by Applebees. The entrance is nondescript – just two solid tan double doors that will be open at the beginning of each scheduled shift.

Please note:

  • The mall warehouse space is a bit dimly lit but we do have additional lighting to improve the situation.
  • We do not have bathrooms within the room of our warehouse space, but there are some available within the mall a bit of a walk away. If that is an issue for you, please do not hesitate to let me know and we can adjust accordingly.
  • There is no sink for handwashing in the facility, but we do provide hand sanitizer and gloves.
  • Dress warmly, as there is no heat in the warehouse.

Similarly to shifts at the warehouse, when you arrive, a group of volunteers will be gathered inside by the supply table. A staff member, most likely myself, will provide a welcome/safety talk and then help the team divide between the different food repackaging and sorting projects needing to be completed that day. We will provide you with details on how to complete your assigned project, and you will also likely be well supported by experienced volunteers.
